This distinction is awarded only to wineries that must have unique characteristics in the climate and their soils, and are allowed to process only the harvests of their own vineyards. In total, there are only 17 wineries that are allowed to hold the distinction of &#8220;Vino de Pago&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>The estate &#8220;Propiedad de Ar\u00ednzano&#8221; stands out for many reasons: its history (it is the oldest winery in Spain dating back to 1055), art and especially the uniqueness of its terroir. And it can really lay claim to this uniqueness, being the first winery in northern Spain to be awarded the &#8220;Vino de Pago&#8221; status.<\/p>\n<p>Ar\u00ednzano&#8217;s goal is to create wines that express the unique character of the Ar\u00ednzano winery. The most advanced, but at the same time careful, techniques are used to ensure gentle handling throughout the winemaking process. The viticultural practices not only respect the natural environment, but also favor it. The property&#8217;s unique microclimate creates a unique environment for viticulture.<\/p>\n<p>The proximity to the Atlantic Ocean results in a strong variation of summer temperatures from day to night, while the Ega River has a moderating influence.
